Long Time No See!

Saddest Wedding Ever by ~CGodfrey on deviantART

I've been ramping up lately. I've been getting booked pretty reliably lately, which is good.

Updates on the way!

Job hunting is taking the majority of my life right now, and I've had no time for photography. It sucks when its only a hobby, and not a career, but I'm trying to fix that.

Buckling Down

Not a whole of photography happening in the previous week, well, none worth sharing.

Starting today, I started the Nightmare on Elm's Street marathon to get up to speed for the new one coming out this Friday.

I've started working a lot, and if my math is right (and it so rarely is), then I shall have enough cash for LA in the fall, which is still my top priority in life. I found the path to LA leads through Vegas, which is a mandatory stop, and a mandatory cash sink. Black jack much?

Anyway, onto the photo of the week.

It's not new, but its newish, it's fan favorite Ryan! And I have no clue what he was screaming at, or why he was so unhappy, but I expect that Sobe might have been spiked (by clearly not me). While I wouldn't call this one of my best shots, it makes me giggle, so I am sharing it, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Life Sucks.

So paying back student loans is fun, right? Wrong. Just ask my cosigners.

That said, I'm getting insanely excited about the potential LA relocation. I've decided to pick up a couple extra gigs over the summer to raise funds so that I can easily pay the student loans back for a couple months (just in case I can't find work out there).

I've decided that the trip will be a rebirth of sorts. A fresh start. Columbus hasn't been particularly kind to me, a couple cases of almost-work, a couple situations of unrequited, unwanted or unhealthy love, and a whole mountain of debt. It did get me out of God-Knows-Where Ohio, though, and to that, I am extremely glad.

So for the next couple of months, I will probably not be very active in the world, I'll be working. A lot.

New Work, also new look on this page (still trying to learn HTML so this page will look as I please):

April!?

So I've been going back and forth a lot lately about some major relocation, either I stay, and try to continue fighting for nothing in Columbus, or I take a shot and move somewhere else, and try to fight for nothing in more fertile grounds. A couple friends of mine are heading to LA in the fall, and I think I might just take that opportunity to leave Ohio and live out west, and see what life brings me. I'm still looking for meaningful work in the meantime, but if nothing comes of fruition by August, I'm out yo.

So with that in mind; the weather has been breaking, and I work and live in a basement, so I'm taking every chance I have to get out and explore parts of Columbus I've never explored. I've found some shots I've really liked, and taken some portraits I've been pretty okay with. That brings me to the photo of the however-long-its-been-since-I-last-updated-and-will-update-again!

Life times are fun times!

I've been busy lately, kind of.
I slowed WAY down on art, like, to a stand still.
Why? Because I've been trying to get my shit together. I've spent the first two months of the year in the a drunken and unhappy haze, and I spent the time since (since mid Feb) trying to get back to my old levels. Everything is peachy keen, now, so no worries.

That being said, my internship is now over, it was equal parts awesome, informative and disappointing, but we won't go into that, and it goes straight to the resumé. I started pinching together cash for some props and equipment, which will start to show up in my images pretty soon. Until then, its all Goodwill.

Anyway, onto the latest of my nine million self portraits. I've been trying to let my imagination go and have fun with shots (just wait for the robot images!), so here comes Mr. No Face Guy! It's really more of a test shot, than anything, I just wanted to see how it would work, its missing a few small details, I think I'll pop the color the real one, and it definitely would look cooler with a cigarette in his mouth (I'm thinking either a cigarello or a black and mild, regular cigs look plain).

On a side note: I've been watching the show V, and I gotta say, it's pretty cool. Can I get some Lizard People Conspiracy theories now?

Not a lot to update; I've been running around trying to find some material to shoot (I've really been fond of doing some still life stuff recently), I found this really cool looking jar of honey, and I think I'm going to do some things with that. I've been trying to bring extra things in, such as various gels, back drops, etc, to really take my photos to the next level.

I'm really tired of being at student/amateur level, ya know?

Hey! I've been a busy little beaver

I've had a busy couple of months hit me lately (I know, nothing new, right?) I've recently been brought on as an Intern for Roharik Studio Productions (Blog, which, apparently, I may be contributing to in the near future, so keep a look out!), and am really excited about the opportunity to learn from a professional (instead of making things up as I went along, like I have been doing).

As far as anything else, everything has been peachy keen in life, I now have constant work, and with that I've been gearing up (and stocking up) for some shoots in the near future (I have this self portrait series lined up). I have started drawing all over again, and man, taking 6 months off from (serious) art was a mistake, I am rustier than I could ever imagine.

Since I don't have anything of mine to upload, let's check out a link from a recent artist I came across while on Abduzeedo, Rafael Albuquerque

This one happens to be my fave:

I'm bad at updating

Some new shots are coming; Lately I've been pretty bad at the keep producing (life is dragging me down). I've been applying around town for internship/apprentice positions, and hopefully something comes up from that. I did a couple weddings recently, and I have got to say, that I won't do a single one more. Like trying to corral a tornado. Other than that, nothing really new to report.

Check out this guy's post: Snowball Fight

Is alive?

I'm still hear, I've been "working" on some projects lately, and by working, I mean sleeping all day, and sleeping all night. Or at least, I would be sleeping if it wasn't for this crazy patch of insomnia I've had for the past month. Sleep, I miss you.

My schedule is looking like it will lighten up, which will give me more time for art, and more time for job hunting.

Now for art:

I consider this my first "professional" shot. The first image I've taken (for profit) since g-day, and probably one of the better images I've ever taken. (Pretty sad, huh?)

Post Post

Not a lot of news coming in this week, getting ready for one of my first paid gigs. Wondering how it's going to work out without flash. Oh well, when all else fails, kick ass.

On to the new image of the week:

Michael Jackson Tribute by ~CGodfrey on deviantART

Michael Jackson. Obvious, huh? The complete media saturation kinda reminded me that MJ kicked ass. Musically kicked ass. I didn't really care too much for his extra-curricular activities, but Smooth Criminal kicked ass.

Post CCAD

Now that I have graduated, I've been looking for both work and to stay busy. So far, things have been going pretty well. I've come to the realization that while I know all the ins and outs of Photoshop and Illustrator, I haven't really used them to their full capacity. So, over the past couple weeks I've been trying to work on making more complicated photomantages.

It is definitely easier said than done. But all the better work will definitely come up here.

The art for this week:
I took this photo at the Red White and Boom 4th of July celebration in Columbus, Ohio. It didn't turn out quite the way I'd hoped, but I still like it.

Commencement

Okay, so I officially received my BFA today. A little scary, I don't really know where I'm going, but I know what I want to do, and I know how to do. Let's hope I get there along the journey. Congratulation to everyone who graduated with me.

Anyway; onto the shot of the however long its been since I last uploaded something.
This shot was taken for a friend of mine's thesis video. Its a cover shot (without the text added; I'll link to that, too.) I like the shot; but a few things could be better.

No More Classes

I'm writing this from the school labs, it'll be the last time I'm in here, and its kind of a sad feeling. But enough about that;

I'm going to be trying to produce a lot more now that I don't have anything else to do (other than grind awayfor pay checks). I don't have a proper light kit yet, so I'll be trying to buy one of those ASAP. Until then, I'm going to be turning into a street photographer.

On to today's peice;

A friend of mine had been bugging me about getting shots for her fashion thesis project, and despite my best efforts, I just couldn't ignore her anymore. Funny how I only ignore my friends. This shot was one of the shots from her final line, I believe the idea was Circus Couture. The shot went by really well, pretty quickly, and I learned how to try a corset! On a side note, I need some assistants.

Deadlines closing in.

Just coming out of class, and I figured I'd grace everyone (read; both of you) with a little update; This time with another portrait of the cool cool man named Lazarus. He is another aspiring actor out of Columbus, Ohio. The shoot went by really quickly, and turned out a pretty good set of shots. Most of which I still need to upload. But without any further adeiu; Lazarus:

My Last Spring Break

I like experimenting. Although, I'd call it playing more than anything.

Another aspiring actress from Columbus, OH, I had the pleasure of meeting Carina through my friend/roommate/film maker friend. I guess my name came up through conversation as someone who'd be able to do some headshots.

The shoot was a little rushed, I had just finished up another shoot, and wasn't really up for the next one, and Carina seemed a bit tired herself, but things went well, everyone had a good time, and we agreed to another shoot soon.

At my first glance through the shots, I wasn't thrilled. Nothing really jumped out at me, but after some tweaking, and some time away, I found this image. A little lomo later, and I think we have something.

Graduation

I'm going to graduate. From college. What the hell?

I'm still in a bit of shock, really, and dread. Not like when I graduated from high school, no this is different. I don't believe that I am ready, there is still so much I can, so much I should learn before I graduate. I feel like none of my instructors have looked at my work, that there should be some reason why I shouldn't be allowed to leave.

And that isn't the only thing; how the hell does one go about getting work? I mean, I know how, in a vague way, to make money, but I really don't know anything fiscal.

But, then again, I'm probably not the only person going through this.

Anyway, on to details about this shoot;
Nothing really exceptional happened at my most recent shoot. We had fun, took some photos, some turned out, some didn't, I haven't looked through most of them yet. The model began to get sick as the shoot went on (it was her first time in front of strobes), so we had to call it quits early.

Still, I'd say this shot was pretty worth it;

New Photo!

Every week, I'm going to try and upload a new image, so here is this weeks;

I haven't been shooting or filming much lately, there has been a lot on my plate. However, I have been hunting through old projects, and galleries to see if there were any photos or videos I either ignored (that had potential), or didn't know how to effectively edit them. This photo is one of those.

Marketing, branding and Other Corporate Jazz

After a hectic relocation process (which still isn't finished) I am finally able to sit down and re-refocus myself. I took a break from designing my business card, and decided to go for something a little more controlled. A little more focused. It isn't that the old design was bad, per say, it just felt more like a card for some sort of family entertainment company. More 04LazerTag! than 04Photography.

I want to redesign my logo, too. I like my current one, and it will probably still exist/be used in certain situations, but definitely not on a business card.

While in the process of redesigning my logo/card, I have been looking through my various projects, trying to find a reel in there somewhere. I know the work is good, but I think I am a little too hard on myself. If it isn't perfect, it feels like a failure to me. Perfection may be impossible, but its not fruitless to chase it.
